Then, on day 9  it's off to the stark outpost of Gorak Shep and across the Khumbu Glacier to Everest Base Camp at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall (pictured above), and one of the most spectacular views of your life. You then make a 5-day return trip to Lukla overnighting in different settlements from those on the trip up.
